BALKAN ORAL HISTORY PROJECT
The project came about when my friend visited Croatia and we started talking about our own experiences there and in Bosnia, and how the youth felt about their future.
I’m looking to meet aspiring filmmakers/journalists.
We want to find aspiring filmmakers (from each former member of Yugoslavia) and tour all the new countries to make oral history videos. The team would go around in a bus and film people from all walks of life in any context (portable backdrops, houses, schools, farms, their land, etc.) and ask them 2 things:
“Tell us a personal story, anecdote or memory from Yugoslavia.”
“Tell us about your vision of the future.”
It’s very ambitious at this stage, but the result could lead to a TV series about the daily life of the team and their journey across the countries, a feature length documentary for theatres/festivals and a very big website with all the videos posted and translated.
We received funding from the Quebec Art Council for research and development for this documentary project.
Denis McCready will be Beograd (3 days), Sarajevo (6 days) and Zagreb (3 days) from July 17 to 31. I wish to interview several aspiring filmmakers and also film some people answering the questions; this will allow me to make a demo to push the project further.
If you have any suggestions of aspiring filmmakers in those cities, or if you know people who could put me in contact with them, I would really appreciate.
If you have any questions, suggestions or comments, just email me at : denismccready@gmail.com
Thanks in advance for your help.
